BSBIOS provides B100 to the largest bus in the world

B100 guaranteed the reduction of 25% in opacity (smoke) and 30% in the emission of CO to the ambient.

The new model of the bi-articulated bus, launched in the celebrations of 138 years of Curitiba/PR, besides being the longest bus in the world, it is also ecologically correct, thus it uses 100% Biodiesel as fuel, what contributes in the reduction of toxic gas emission to the ambient. Biodiesel used by 28 meters vehicles is produced by BSBIOS, which headquarter is in Passo Fundo/RS.

The industry participates in a project which is technically known as B100 (100% Biofuel). It was implanted on August 2009, with six buses of Green Line, which meant a reduction of 50% in the emission of smoke. From now on, the Ligeirões, as it is known, also run exclusively with Biodiesel of BSBIOS.

The Chief Executive Officer of BSBIOS and Vice-President of Associative and Institutional Relations of the União Brasileira de Biodiesel (UBRABIO), Erasmo Carlos Battistella, congratulate Curitiba for this excellent initiative. "BSBIOS is honored in participating in this important moment. We are glad that the capital paranaense has chosen BSBIOS to contribute with the reduction of gas emission. Biodiesel is the only fuel with qualtity which has enough renewable raw-material to supply the market, replacing the Fossil Diesel, besides contributing with the reduction of pollution. We wish Curitiba is an example for other capitals", he emphasized. According to studies monthly accomplished by the Instituto Tecnológico do Estado do Paraná (Tecpar), there was a reduction of 25% in opacity (smoke) and 30% in the emission of carbon monoxide (CO) to the environment, one of the gases that contributes to global warming. The manager of Inspection and Register Area of the Urban Transportation of URBS (Urbanização de Curitiba S/A) Élcio Karas, stresses the objective of opting for biofuel in public transportation. "We chose the renewable fuel with the purpose of reducing the greenhouse effect and the emission of gases in Curitiba, and we have been successful at it."He still asserted that the high quality of the product was very important to the great success of the process. "We trust in the Biodiesel provided by BSBIOS, because we are sure about the commitment of the company towards the program, this gives us tranquility," Karas stated.

A study of the Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) demonstrated that replacing in the use of mineral diesel oil by the increase of mixtures of Biodiesel at 10% and 20%, might contribute to reduce the emission of air pollutants harmful to human health. The adoption of B10 would result in less than 3.000 hospital admissions due to respiratory problems, and it would avoid 420 deaths, resulting in a saving of R$ 2.88 million with health. The numbers would become even more expressive with the B20, 4800 hospital admissions would be avoided, 690 lives and around 4.68 million with health would be saved.

Battistella still emphasized that the country has potential to produce larger quantity of Biodiesel. "We have spoken to the Federal Government so that the Plan of Diesel Supply, which will implant Diesel oil with low content of sulfur (S50 and S10) called B20 metropolitan, becomes a reality. Our industries are prepared so that we advance even more," he said. In 2011 the prediction of the national production is 2.6 billion liters of Biodiesel.

The vehicle with 28 meters is the longest bus in the world. The two units might transport around 50 thousand passengers per day. Still this semester, Curitiba will have a total of 24 buses in the same model. Its capacity is for 250 passengers.
