Go BackCanola crop increases in the region
Canola has becoming the focus among winter crops grown in the region. With a significant increase in the area of growth in the last few years, encouraged by real guarantees of market in its commercialization, idle areas use in the winter and because crop rotation is an important alternative, canola has gaining attention from producers.
According agronomist Fábio Benin, coordinator of the Development Sector of BSBIOS, this is proven by the quantitative as well as the qualitative results. Quantitatively, with the technological domain of the process, technical monitoring and the research support, the area has grown, thus more professionals are closer to producers for support and technical assistance. Benin says this is one of the principles of the Development Sector of BSBIOS, a strict technical monitoring of areas searching for better results. Qualitatively, the rates of the crop productivity and profitability show its potential based on years monitoring and analysis profitability. "|Our objective is to demonstrate to producers that the crop has technical and commercial feasibility, area to be grown and guaranteed market, and this is very important to the producer, thus it provides conditions for good results to this new crop" states Agronomist Fábio Junior Benin.
Since the market of biodiesel is growing, by increasing the mixture to 4% from June this year, the demand for vegetable oils will be equally better, and this consolidates a large consuming market to which canola crop will be directed. Based on its planning, BSBIOS aims at the external market, mainly the European market, which uses olza oil as pattern oil for production of biodiesel, with chemical characteristics which are similar to canola oil.
The expectation is that for crop 2009, BSBIOS develops a total of 15.000 ha, distributed in the North and Northwest regions of RS and SC. These numbers are the result of a joint effort between BSBIOS, cooperatives, grain producers and partner producers in the region, research and rural extension bodies and financing institutions, each one focused on its work and providing structure to the canola development program. The areas are in the early stage of development (early post-emergency), with a good germination stand. This situation is very important to the crop, thus with an adequate initial establishment, positive final results and income are predicted, which will be determining for the grown area increase.
