Encounter allows change of experiences on canola growth

Last Saturday, it was held the Ist Technical Encounter promoted by BSBIOS in partnership with Banco do Brasil, through the Grupo Desenvolvimento Regional Sustentável (DRS) Biofuels, and with Produtécnica with the theme "Experiences and opportunities for canola growth". The activity gathered rural producers, agricultural technicians, agronomists, companies of biofuels and researchers.

The encounter commenced at the Experimental Field at the University of Passo Fundo (UPF) where Canola plots were seen. Yet, areas planted with 6 different hybrids during harvest time were visited, where the cycle of development and varied planting spaces were observed. The researcher of Embrapa-Trigo Dr. Gilberto Omar Tomm explained the vegetative cycle. "Here we can observe hybrid Hyola 420 which is more precocious and it is ready for harvest and together with Hyola 60 which is long cycle that it is still green. Although we believe that the sooner the better to harvest, the long cycle shows advantages. As it takes longer to develop it has more capacity to recover in the case of frosts, then it becomes more resistant and it provides security to the crop", emphasized Tomm.

At the opportunity, the fertilization essay could also be seen. To the coordinator of the Development Department of BSBIOS, agronomist Fábio Júnior Benin "fertilization is important for the good development of the crop, and another benefit is that if we invest in fertilization in winter planting it can also be used in the summer".

The sequence of the activity took place at the Associação Atlética Banco do Brasil (AABB) of Passo Fundo (RS) with a moment for explanations on canola. Initially, the Chief Executive Officer of BSBIOS Erasmo Carlos Battistella spoke, emphasizing the good results that are appearing at the harvest this year. "In 2010 we surpassed the objectives with crops that exceed 30 sacks, this is the positive result of the partnerships we have achieved until now, and we wish to increase further in technology, productivity and area planted, aiming at quality maintenance obtained so far. Yet, we want to make official the Associação Nacional dos Produtores de canola so that we can obtain resources to develop even more this crop that has been the example for the whole country", asserted Battistella. The representative of the DRS Group Renir Renato Resener highlighted that the Group was right to choose the production of alternative raw materials of biofuels in order to have them as focus to the works. "Canola is a crop which is feasible because of many factors that go from the conquest of the Agroclimatic Zoning, which allowed the agricultural insurance (PROAGRO) to producers until the real commercialization, aggregating income to the productive system. With that, it is allowed that the farmer can search for rural financing, in 2010 only Banco do Brasil was present in more than 5 thousand hectares area," revealed Resener.

To the partner-owner of the Produtécnica Luiz Carlos Ferreira de Carvalho, this vegetable oil crop aggregates the production system. "Canola has brought various benefits to producer who depended on wheat in the winter, mainly concerning commercialization, thus with it, grain business is guaranteed and stays in the region, with cereal, this was really hard", he said. The same opinion was shared by the ex-president of the Sindicato Rural of Passo Fundo and the producer Jair Rodrigues. "I have produced canola for 5 years, we started without costing or zoning and it was already worth it, with liquidity provided by BSBIOS, and with the learning of crop handling we must invest even more. We are happy with the results we have obtained. At this harvest we shall gather average 30 sacks per hectare," emphasized Rodrigues.

To the producer Amadeu Carrassa, canola is like learning with security. "In 7 years planting, I never needed to ask PROAGRO something, and with wheat at this same period this has already happened. Another advantage is that, planting soybean at mulching of canola, greater productivity is obtained, that is, around 5 sacks more per ha", he asserted. He also revealed the experience obtained at harvest this year. "In the area I opted for cut and windrowing, I obtained productivity of 36 sacks per ha, and in the area I used the technique of plant dissection, 7 sacks less were used", revealed Carassa. The encounter was concluded with fraternization among the participants.
